Services

Montserrat Customs and Excise Department is responsible for the collection of around one-third of all internally generated revenue. It delivers the following services to the Government and public:

Processing of imported and exported goods.

The Department inspects examines all goods entering and leaving the country and assesses and collects any duties or tax that are liable to be paid. This service is provided primarily at the sea port and airport whilst much of the paperwork is handled at Customs & Excise Headquarters in Brades. The Department also provides this service at the main Post Office As part of the examination process, the Department also searches for and seizes restricted and prohibited goods (e.g. firearms or drugs). Processing of Incoming and Outgoing Travellers.

Officers of the Customs and Excise Department speak to persons arriving on Montserrat by air or sea, and inspects any items they are bringing with them in order to assess and collect any duties that are liable to be paid. As part of the examination process, the Department also searches for and seizes restricted and prohibited goods (e.g. firearms or drugs).
